The Arrival of Mr. Drew Robert Merrill!

Well it's official - now the Tales of Mommy Merrill can begin!  On Saturday March 9th, 2013 baby Drew Robert Merrill entered the world - I became a mommy and Ronnie became a daddy all one amazing moment.

Stats'n'Stuff:

Weight:  7lbs 4 oz

Height:  20 in.  (but we measured 21 at our 2 week dr. appointment...so I think the hospital might have been off a tad...either that or this little guy had a major growth spurt in 10 days ;-)

Hair:  Yes he had hair and it is pretty light... a debatable blonde like mommy's natural hair color.

Eyes:  Still blue!

Features that stood out: He looks like a mini version of daddy!

Story of his arrival:

Well if any of you read my previous post - you know that our doctor got us all fired up that our baby would be arriving early... told Ronnie not to leave town and I was thinking baby would be here almost 2 weeks early!  Well...God loves to test my patience and almost 2 weeks later we were waiting....waiting.... waiting.

I was going on very long walks, decided to take a few short 'runs' (figured if they tell you to take a drive on a bumpy road that jogging would do the same thing), ate spicy food, bounced on the ball, did lunges.  You name it.  Then came my 39 week appointment. I went in and they thought I was measuring a little small.  They did an ultrasound - all checked out good and away I went.  Week 39 going on 40.

The next day I started to feel a little crampy...then that night around 8pm I started feeling moderate contractions...and my back was KILLING ME!  Daddy was up in Gainesville watching a game and I texted him to get home... finally at 3am my contractions were 1-2 min apart and we took off for St. Joeseph's Women's Hospital!

When we arrived I was dilated to a 5 - quickly moved to an 8 and we all thought we were going to meet the newest Merrill very soon!  But then it was like time stood still.  I was stuck at a 9.  Doctor order patocin to get contractions going again.  I got to a 10 and started pushing... and pushing... and pushing...  2 hours and C-Section threat later Drew Robert Merrill was pushed into this world!  At 1:40 PM we met the love of our lives.   The most amazing experience of my life and we are just so blessed that he is healthy and arrived without any complications.  We thank God every day for blessing us with Drew Robert.

Ron and Cathy were there to meet their first grandson, along with Aunt Stephanie and friends Raquel and Alex.

Ronnie, Drew and Grandpa Merrill - the 3 generations

Us with the proud grandparents!

Steph, Alex and Raquel  - they had been waiting at the hospital for nearly 5 hours!
'Hi - I'm not sure how i feel about all of this yet...but at least I look like daddy and I am reminding everyone that mommy is a natural blonde!'
We moved from Labor and Delivery up to our Mother-Baby room that afternoon.  It was so much fun getting to know our little guy.  He has so many silly faces that he makes - this one is our fave :-)

This is my 'hide and go seek' lip trick!

Daddy making Drew faces (and looking VERY tired..)

What's wrong with this picture?  Shouldn't I be the one sleeping? ;-)
I joke about writing a short book that covers 'all the things no one warns you about during labor and 2 days to follow'.  Let's just say there were quite a few 'suprises' that I wasn't expecting!

We went home on Monday March 11th.  Stay tuned for the next post when we introduced Drew to his home on Ashworth Drive AND another VERY exciting event that took place just days after we were home!

Drew Robert Merrill - we love you SO very much!

  1. Oh YAY! I have been waiting for this post. So, was I right about it feeling like a vise grip was clamping your spine?! It's awful, right?! And p.s. you look WAY to good to have just had a baby. Drew is gorgeous and I can't wait to see more photos of him! And yeah, thankfully my sister had warned me about the giant diapers they send you home with and all that fun stuff :-P

    1. Yes... it was like a vise grip! Then my back started to feel like some one was beating it with an extra large hammer. When my contractions first started, I layed on a bag of peas on the couch...ya, didn't really do the trick :-) Since Wendy's first was a premie - she couldn't warn me about all the crazy post-labor stuff. Like the fact that you felt like your insides were falling out when you went to the bathroom and how 'key' the soothing witchhazel pads were! The CRAMPING when feeding for the first few times was BRUTAL - no warning on that one! So...you were lucky to have a heads up on that stuff from Brooke!
